History

The Ohio Federation for Health Equity and Social Justice, which is the dba name of the Health Disparities Collaborative of Ohio, Inc.,  was formally organized in 2011 by a group of individuals who were concerned with the lack of infrastructure focused on disparities in health and the need for community engagement and mobilization.  The organization was incorporated in the State of Ohio in 2011, as a nonprofit agency and was granted its 501(C) (3), by the Internal Revenue Service.

As the organization continued to develop its strategic focus, it became apparent to the group that disparities in child welfare, juvenile justice, education and economic security similarly impacted health. Therefore, the organization expanded its mission to include those issue areas under the category of Social Justice.  Over the years the Federation has partnered and continues to partner with individuals and organizations at the local, state and national level.
